Petrus Coetzee advises and represents clients across a broad range of legal matters, with particular experience in litigation and dispute resolution. Whether acting for individuals, businesses or institutions, his approach is centred on practical legal solutions and effective representation.
Petrus Coetzee established his own practice in 2026 and works in association with Brand and Van der Berg.
Practising independently allows Petrus to continue doing what he has always enjoyed most—working closely with clients, providing trusted legal advice and appearing in court to resolve complex legal disputes.
In 1992, Petrus Coetzee became a Director at Mason Incorporated, where he practised for more than 30 years. His work focused strongly on High Court litigation, with experience across civil, criminal and commercial matters.
During this time, he was involved in numerous reported decisions and appeared in matters before the High Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court of South Africa. In 2021, he stepped down as Director and continued consulting as an attorney until 2024.
In 1990, Petrus joined Mason Weinberg to complete his articles of clerkship. He was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1992.
Petrus began his legal career in the Department of Justice, where he gained extensive experience across prosecution, magistracy, and state advocacy. This foundation gave him a broad and practical understanding of South African legal processes and court procedure.
